Rutgers offers numerous approved programs in a variety of topics for active duty military, veterans, reservists, and eligible military dependents. These convenient, flexible, and affordable programs are available online or in person at locations throughout New Jersey.

Getting Started Checklist

› First time applying? We recommend contacting our Veteran’s Coordinators at CEVeteransSupport@docs.rutgers.edu. Please note that the VA benefits approval process typically takes several weeks.

1. Choose a program

NOTE: We are currently in the process of creating a new noncredit course catalog. Approved courses will be published in 2024.

2. Apply online for VA benefits

To use your Montgomery (Chapter 30), Post 9/11 GI Bill® (Chapter 33), or Survivors and Dependents (Chapter 35) benefits, complete an online application to the Department of Veterans Affairs.

3. Once approved, receive your Certificate of Eligibility (COE)

A paper document of your Certificate of Eligibility (COE) will be mailed to you by the VA upon approval. This process can take up to 4–6 weeks. The COE provides the time and percentage of benefits you have available. A copy of this form is required by the School Certifying Official.

Fax, email, or mail COE along with the VET Enrollment Verification Certification Form. Provide a copy of your Certificate of Eligibility (COE), along with the Veteran Enrollment Certification Form to the School Certifying Official. To claim VA educational benefits, you must provide a copy of these documents for each class or program.

You must choose a VA-approved noncredit or certificate program eligible for funding by the State Approving Agency and the Veterans Administration. Approved courses will be published in 2024. If you’re interested in a program that is not listed, contact our Veteran’s Coordinators at CEVeteransSupport@docs.rutgers.edu.
